Choosing one or the other depends on the amount of content, the objective of our users and the type of pages we are working with (navigation, consumption or interaction). A quality that should always be taken into account when designing the layout of a website is depth. A deep structure is one that establishes a marked vertical hierarchy of contents/pages. In other words, most pages are more than a click away from the home page. On the other hand, in a flat structure the content is presented on the same level. Generally, a good structure is neither too deep nor too flat.
